EA Dead Space

Electronic Arts tests brand fidelity by using a Community Server gaming site to create buzz for its first sci-fi horror game yet to be released.

COMMUNITY SERVER in Action

Electronic Arts (EA) is the world's leading independent developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software for advanced console systems such as the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, Xbox 360, and Xbox, as well as PC games, casual Web-based games, and games for mobile phone devices. Dead Space is the first sci-fi horror game launched by the company.

The Dead Space team was looking for a social software solution that would provide a platform for compelling customer interactions with each other, the game assets, and the developers. By combining the highly-interactive and accessible Community Server platform with content experiences that provide deep immersion into the world of Dead Space, EA's goal was to drive intrigue, discussion, participation, evangelism, and ultimately purchase with its new (upcoming) EA Dead Space community site.

Due to release Halloween 2008, EA wanted to start creating buzz for Dead Space early in the year. Because the main goal for the community site was to remain extremely simple and functional while at the same time providing deep interaction and ready access to a broad spectrum of content and media, Community Server was the perfect fit for EA's needs. The new site allows the site administrator to add new content types to sort and provides enterprise-level blogs and forums, experiential concept navigation, an extensive game section (which offers a basic story overview, a behind-the-scenes look at the new horror game, a concept gallery, developer "insider" videos, and more).

"Our goal was to create a community site in support of the Dead Space title, which will allow community managers to provide media content for Dead Space customers and fans. The new Community Server site provides a framework for community interaction and a platform from which to extend the world of Dead Space." EA Dead Space Team Member

In order to build the online gaming community within a short timeframe, the team at Telligent used Bloggielligent, an NG engine, to render all of the content. Our Telligent Professional Services team also had to integrate media content with Flash components and coordinate project efforts across three different vendor groups.

Telligent performed the site construction and integration, Open Road provided the CMS, and Blast Radius developed the user interface design and HTML.
